Big Jim Salter

Did ya hear about that man of mine talking 'bout his rise to fame
I met him as the curtains rose Jim Salter was his name
He sang his songs to poke at girls his movements getting kind of slow
He opened his hand and he grabbed my heart with the help of Cupid's bow
Never again with the devil I lay
Never, never, never again

With his evil touch he stole my soul I was a servant to his sin
He made me clean the dirt off his old brown boots each time he went out rambling
In his bed he slept the day away in his bed I wanted to die
At midnight he would dress and go and leave me there to cry
Never again with the devil I lay
Never, never, never again

Down the road in the morning light my sunken eyes can see
Slyly the drunken shadow moves Jim Salter's coming for me
His selfish love won't touch me though because I'll be homeward bound
His lying and double timing's gonna fall on stony ground
Never again with the devil I lay
Never, never, never again
