It's possible that Trump is simply suffering from progressing dementia brought on by old age. The symptoms of very early onset seem to match up with his strange moments. I do not think he is being deliberate, though; his egotism and pride would not tolerate willingly do things to seem weak or crippled. There are excellent studies done on cognitive abilities and some have determined that having a lower intellect suffer cognitive decline at a faster rate that those with greater intellects. Alzheimers is a mental issue that slowly causes memory loss. Those afflicted slowly lose their ability to find the correct words they need. They will often not recognize it themselves. It‘s a disease that will become worse with time. Combined with dementia, it can be hard to deal with. It’s hard to diagnose Trump‘s current mental state, but I see progressing evidence of both Alzheimers and dementia which are both reflected in his pattern of speech.

It's possible that Trump is simply suffering from progressing dementia brought on by old age. The symptoms of very early onset seem to match up with his strange moments. I do not think he is being deliberate, though; his egotism and pride would not tolerate willingly do things to seem weak or crippled. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.
Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing – not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility – for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is – his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.
Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults – he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.
There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege.
And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff – the Queensberry rules of basic decency – and he breaks them all. He punches downwards – which a gentleman should, would, could never do – and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless – and he kicks them when they are down.
So the fact that a significant minority – perhaps a third – of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:
• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.
• You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man.
This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws – he would make a Trump.

6. Said he would come up with a new health care plan. Didn’t happen, yet he tried to destroy Obamacare.
7. Constantly promised “Infrastructure Week.” Didn’t happen until Joe Biden got the job done.
8. Pandered to racist groups while mocking groups such as Black Lives Matter.
9. Endless “Executive Time” daily to call in to Fox News, watch TV, and/or tweet insults and lies.

Trump does make jokes - but only after he has made a really stupid statement about a serious subject, which shows his ignorance to the world - and then, he is “just joking.” And don’t forget, he separated innocent children from their parents as a matter of policy like never done before or since in our history by a president. Evil, and the world knows it. I know, Obama did it sometimes, but mostly to protect the child from a bad parent/adult. Even prisoners, who are incarcerated, usually know where their kids are and can sometimes have visits, which is not the same as desperate people who are seeking a better life for their children and then were torn apart. Repeal Obamacare (failed, but did limit it some; coronavirus policies and management (ingest bleach, UV light, demonize Fauci, etc – a total mess); fund Christian (religious) schools by diverting money from public schools (failed, but did serve to polarize the population and ignore the separation of church and state); reduced regulations for offshore drilling (succeeded with obvious environmental liabilities); reduced methane emissions regulations (green house gas), even oil companies such as BP and Shell publicly spoke out against these regs (BTW, are you hot enough this summer?); 2018 effort to reign in Dept of Defence discretionary $$ (succeeded, good policy); $1.5 trillion tax cuts (neither side really liked this, but it got through and became a “sugar high” economically with little lasting value to the average American (but lots of value to the wealthy - once your portfolio goes up 50% you can continue to grow that money!); Vehicle emissions represent the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the US. Trump reduced the 5% improvement requirement on auto companies to 1.5% ( Go, Donald! BTW, who is a winner here?); Build the Wall (I’ll leave it to you to guess what happened); Blocked Huawei & ZTE from doing meaningful business with the government and most US companies followed (success!), Subsidies to farmers were the highest in 40 years as a result of tariffs imposed by other countries against the US, as a result of tariffs against China (was this a “win”, well, farmers are part of his base); reducing the effect of Dodd-Frank (with more large bank mergers following and much less transparancy); exited or attempted to eviscerate the North American Trade Agreement, NAFTA, NATO, World Trade Organization – all with no recognizable gains and identifiable losses. But, he did meet with his friends in N Korea and Russia – which represent terrible visuals to us here in the US and the peaceful world. A bully who has no regard for anyone but himself and growing his personal wealth Jared/Saudi fund management deal – you’ve got to be kidding). Eighteen of Trumps cohorts from his administration were indicted, some while he was in office and the rest within a year or so. The current lawsuits to chase down Trump and his sidekicks will leave dozens more in prison or barred from office, including him, I hope. The fact that this is unprecedented is no consolation. The fact that we had a bully-leader who would step on even his own inner circle, that many people still voted for, shows that there are a lot of disenfranchised people in America and that social media is a great manipulator, and we suffer from it. Fascism is not the answer, it is a scab festering on a sick Republican party. Trump fits that definition perfectly
Trump is literally the biggest asshole of our time. He has no moral, no decency, but a lot of egoism and hate. He is lying and manipulating contantly his whole life because he is lacking empathy and shame. He rather sacrifice a whole country then to admit that he lose. The part that rational, functional people sometimes miss about Trump is that his grotesque, repulsive behavior is seen as giving permission to some of the worst in American society. Trump has made indecent, immoral people believe they no longer have to hide in the shadows. These people now feel empowered to be their most reprehensible selves for all of us to see. The legacy of Trump will be the destruction of basic civility, and possibly, American democracy.
It's a beautiful description of a man to whom that word has never applied. Living in NY and working in NYC for almost 40 years, I got to know 45 before he ever hit DC. He said he was going to “drain the swamp,” yet appointed only his “yes” men and women, many who ended up in legal trouble themselves. He took documents that he had no right to take, then lied about having them. He tried to steal an election by using fake electors, and encouraging the disaster of January 6th, where he gleefully watched the carnage for hours on TV before lamely trying to call off his dogs. He wanted to rip up the Constitution of the United States because he failed to steal the election. His dealings with Putin are highly suspect. His attempts to downplay Covid 19 led to hundreds of thousands of deaths. His lies about a “stolen election” continue to disrupt our country, in spite of the complete lack of evidence to support any of his blatherings.
Barack Obama, on the other hand, whom you appear to dislike, was ranked #11 in the survey, with “Obamacare” being his major accomplishment, which gave millions of Americans - myself included - affordable healthcare. Trump used his hatred for the popular Obama to try and do away with the ACA, WITHOUT HAVING ANOTHER PLAN IN PLACE! Only John McCain’s vote saved it. Yes, we CAN use the popular Obama as a presidential benchmark. Did you ever hear a hint of scandal involving Obama or the people who worked for him? I’m not sure where you have gotten all your negativity regarding Obama, but I suggest you look at reliable sources. Obama inherited a mess from Bush, and turned it around. He was/is intelligent and well-spoken, unlike Trump, who is neither.

It’s no shock to see that Trump has lied constantly about losing the election, but to see the extent he was willing to lie and threaten to try and illegally overturn the election is a new low for him. The 2020 Presidential Election is not the first one Trump tried to subvert. He did the same thing in the wake of the 2012 election, which outcome displeased him. In that election, he did not claim voter fraud, but candidate malfeasance, claiming to have uncovered plausible evidence that the winner was foreign born and thus ineligible to serve. So far as I know, Mr Trump has never shared this evidence with anyone. But I may be wrong.
He couldn’t share the “evidence” because he didn’t have any. He finally conceded that Obama was born in the USA, but Trump waited until September 2016 to admit it. Lies, lies, and more lies.
His delusional claim that he won the 2020 election “by a landslide” is a thousand times more toxic, as it is dividing our country. Think of how easy it's been for Trump and his GOP allies to con over 30% of Americans into believing his lies and refusing to take a live-saving vaccine, not to mention taking away the right to vote from millions of voters, all in the name of Trump's ego and desperate need to regain political power. His supporters call it "freedom," but it's just racism, selfishness, ignorance and immorality -- all traits they admire in their cult leader, Donald J. Trump. Since January, Trump has amassed over $75 million dollars from voters by claiming the contributions would be used to "stop the steal" and overturn the 2020 election. But, his own financial statements prove that not a single dollar has gone toward fighting the election results, funding fake audits or anything else related to the election. Instead, all $75 million is being used to pay for his own personal expenses, for travel, criminal defense lawyers, staff, his personal businesses, and the cost of maintaining his personal lifestyle. The abbreviation for Republican voters should not be "Reeps," it should be "Rubes." It's like the old cliché, "A fool and his money are soon parted," and 95% of the GOP are fools. Trump has no policies he wants to enact. He's driven to regain the White House only to serve his enormous ego and to once again, use the presidency as his own personal piggy bank, funded by taxpayers.
